Pocket RTA Ultra Review
Pocket RTA Ultra is a portable real-time spectrum analyzer for iOS that boasts advanced features typically found in pricier sound analysis software. It caters to a broad range of users, from amateur hi-fi enthusiasts to professional A/V engineers, offering fast and precise spectrum analysis capabilities. Applications include system calibration, noise level monitoring, and audio equipment testing.
Utilizing internal or external microphones, Pocket RTA samples sounds and applies a Fourier Transform to generate a frequency spectrum, providing an accurate breakdown of sound into its frequency components. The app offers various display modes such as linear narrow band, logarithmic narrow band, Octave, 1/3 Octave, 1/6 Octave, RT60, SPL, and Spectrogram displays with ANSI A and C weighting curves. Users can leverage the iPhone's multi-touch interface for real-time display magnification and selection of FFT points for frequency and decibel level information.
Key features of Pocket RTA include variable sample rates, definable FFT frame sizes, ANSI/IEC A and C weighting curves, 32-bit floating point sampling, oversampling up to 32 times, noise cancellation, peak note/frequency display, octave displays, SPL monitoring, RT60 calculations, mixer mode, LEQ mode, signal generator with various tones, touch screen frequency display, gain controls for microphones, calibration capabilities for internal and external mics, capture buffers for reference traces, camera roll capture function, profile saving/loading options, data export via email or FTP server backup.
