Pocket RTA Ultra Review

Pocket RTA Ultra is a portable real-time spectrum analyzer for iOS that boasts advanced features typically found in pricier sound analysis software. It caters to a broad range of users, from amateur hi-fi enthusiasts to professional A/V engineers, offering fast and precise spectrum analysis capabilities. Applications include system calibration, noise level monitoring, and audio equipment testing.

Utilizing internal or external microphones, Pocket RTA samples sounds and applies a Fourier Transform to generate a frequency spectrum, providing an accurate breakdown of sound into its frequency components. The app offers various display modes such as linear narrow band, logarithmic narrow band, Octave, 1/3 Octave, 1/6 Octave, RT60, SPL, and Spectrogram displays with ANSI A and C weighting curves. Users can leverage the iPhone's multi-touch interface for real-time display magnification and selection of FFT points for frequency and decibel level information.
